How to Check If Your License Is Suspended

 August 1, 2015

By  LMW Attorneys

In Florida, there are 2.2 million people driving with suspended or revoked licenses. While many of these drivers choose not to risk going to jail and stay away from being behind the wheel, there are still those drivers out there who continue to drive with a suspended license.

For many of these drivers, it has nothing to do with willfully defying the law. Rather, they are unaware of their license suspension. All it takes is forgetting to pay a few tickets and your right to drive has been revoked. That’s why it’s so important that all Florida drivers are aware of their current driving record.

How Can I tell If My License Is Suspended?

The easiest way to tell if your license is suspended is by checking the DMV website.

Simply go online and enter your full name, date of birth, driver’s license number and address, and the system will tell you your current driving status.

Why Is My License Suspended?

There are many different reasons that could cause you to have a suspended license. These include but are not limited to:

– Receiving too many points of your driving record
– Accumulating too many traffic violations or speeding tickets
– Failing to pay traffic ticket fees
– Failing to pay child support
– Receiving a DUI

What Happens If I Drive on a Suspended License?

Driving on a suspended license is banned in every state. This means that you could be facing hefty fines and penalties. Just some of the problems you may face include:

– Fines
– Jail time
– Community services
– Driving record points
– Prolonged license suspension
– Revocation or cancellation of driver’s license

The more times you are caught without a license, the more serious your punishments will be.

Don’t Risk Your Freedom

Today, many people who drive without suspended licenses don’t even realize they are not suppose to be driving. Even a minor traffic infraction can lead to your driving privileges being revoked. If you think your license may be suspended, be sure to check with the DMV. Driving on a suspended license will only lead to problems. There is no reason to risk your money or your freedom.
